Health Tip: Eat More Mushrooms

Eat more mushrooms.

There is proof that Shitake mushrooms stimulate immune macrophages and natural killer cells to act rapidly and aggressively against invading pathogens and increase antibody production and interferon for better disease resistance. A recent study found that these mushrooms offer more protection against Influenza A than an anti-viral drug, amantadine. Shitake also show healing results against hypertension, cataracts, anemia, allergies , chronic fatigue, candida, cancer and HIV.

Just use a few at a time…it goes a long way. Too much can cause diarrhea or skin rash. Consult your physician if you are taking blood thinners as these mushrooms have slight anti-clotting properties.

 

Cholesterol: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

The Good and the Bad.  The blood stream is the tell-tale system for whether one is aging or not with respect to cardiac disease, artery disease, high blood pressure and subsequent injury to your body. The Good cholesterol or HDL- High Density Lipoprotein, regulates low density lipoprotein storage and promotes excretion from our bodies vessels and organs. The Bad Cholesterol, or LDL, stores cholesterol in the blood stream; which can cause atherosclerotic plaque buildup in the arteries. So cholesterol health is key to preventing cardiovascular problems. The sum of your LDL levels, HDL levels and one-fifth of your triglyceride levels should not exceed 200. The Obama administration is trying to work out an equitable health plan for all of us to benefit by, but it is difficult to please everyone in the same manner.
