Spring has sprung, Fall has fell, Summer is here and it is gong to be hotter than ... anything!
Caveat Solaire…. Meaning: let the sun worshipper beware! Dehydration is a nasty thing and is easy to achieve if one does not drink enough water. There have been numerous studies out that state we don't need as much as eight, 9 oz glasses per day. However, it is imperative that we hydrate, especially if we are spending a lot of time outside. Dizziness, high blood pressure, fainting spells and exhaustion are symptoms of not enough water; besides dry and flaky skin. The older one gets, the less desirous of water. The thirst mechanism in our brains is reduced and we tend not to drink as much. People are dying of dehydration folks …so drink those eight glasses per day or more. What you don't use is excreted. When is enough, enough? When your urine is clear is enough! Don't be afraid to look!!!
Antioxidants
Much is being said about the new juices that contain berries of different sorts that are full of anti-oxidants. Mona Vie is composed of the Acai berry from the rain forests of Brazil. Zango is made from the Mangosteen berry of the South American Rainforests. Either way each of these has anti-oxidant properties that have been touted as being able to cure systemic disease. Mona Vie has added glucosamine in it for the joints. I have a cousin who swears by it but I tried it and still have knee pain. The Zango gives me much energy, a feeling of relaxation and lightness that I can't really explain. It has been stated that it has decreased cancer in some cases and eliminated various other auto-immune diseases. Either way, you can't go wrong with an added anti-oxidant during your day. These drinks are costly but worth the try to see if you feel any better.
That is the bottom line for any supplement. For those who want information on Xango please contact me. Alzheimer's disease ... New information A test to determine whether it is genetically linked to you can be done. If you are positive for this disease it will show up on Gene 19. Many people choose not to know ... your choice. You have a 50% shot!
Stimulating your brain by exercising is a great way to stay young. Brains like to be challenged and doing things with your body that you don't normally do is good "food" for your brain. Brush your teeth with the opposite hand. Switch hands to eat with and even though you might make a mess, the brain is uncaring about this but getting worked up as it is being used. We only use about 10% of our brains. So by exercising all of your body parts you can start to exercise the other 90% of your brain. People who have had strokes can regenerate damaged brain cells through exercise, mind games and speech exercises. Any questions, contact me.
I have just returned from two weeks of volunteer teaching in a hospital in Taiyuan, China. It was a great experience. My audience was 350 nurses, 150 medical doctors and 50 dentists.
I discussed: Hospice care; Palliative care; new treatments and theories in Alzheimer's disease; Aging and your Oral Health; and Healthy Aging and more.I made medical rounds daily with the doctors, who asked me questions about helping their patients. I also visited traditional Chinese Medical Clinics as well. There is no private practice there, only hospital or community clinic care. It is quite different than our system. They have an increasing aging population like we do but only greater; however, they are at a loss as to what to do about them. One-quarter of the population smokes, one-third has chronic illness due to second hand smoke. Two million people died last year due to smoking. The air is polluted everywhere and there is no pollution control. It was tough to breathe to say the least. I am glad to be home, but will go back again to teach. They need me!
Don't forget to smile daily as it removes the wrinkles. And don't forget to laugh as it stimulates your endorphins, the bodies naturally occurring euphoric...it makes you feel good.
*** Three older ladies were talking when an old man walked up to them. They all looked at him and said we can tell your age. He said "go ahead." They told him to remove his clothing and he did. They said you're 87 years young. He said "that is amazing, how did you do it?" They said in unison, "we went to your birthday party yesterday!!!"
